Fraud protection
Protection against credit card abuse
At the beginning of 2005, Europay, MasterCard and Visa introduced a new standard for credit card payments: EMV. The EMV system no longer uses magnetic stripes but the more secure chips for payment transactions. The aim of this standard is to achieve a significant reduction in credit card fraud. Currently EMV can only be used for credit card payments. From 2011 onwards, electronic cash payments will also be possible by means of EMV.

One
prerequisite for accepting EMV payments is a terminal that is equipped with a chip card reader or hybrid card reader as well as the required software. A relatively large data memory is also needed. Last but not least, each terminal model must be approved for the new standard before it can be used for EMV transactions.
PIN queries in EMV transactions are card-controlled, i.e. within the scope of EMV technology, credit card payments that, until today, could be effected by signature will now possibly need authentication by entering the Personal Identification Number (PIN). As the card chip controls the query, it cannot be influenced via the terminal. In such a case, the credit card payment must be confirmed by entering the credit card holder's PIN.
Your benefit: maximum security
Retailers can benefit from EMV in terms of
security: EMV cards currently meet the highest security standard. Moreover: the so-called "liability shift" regulation, which came into effect on 1st January 2005, protects retailers equipped with EMV in cases of fraud in credit card payments. Retailers without EMV, however, shall be liable for fraudulent transactions with credit cards as of 1st January 2005, if the damage could otherwise have been prevented by using an EMV-capable terminal.
EMV with easycash
With its brand new Artema hybrid terminal, accepted by ConCardis, easycash offers you the possibility to rely on secure credit card payments using an EMV hybrid card reader. And: we are already aiming at EMV approval for all the other established terminal models in order to be able to provide you with the extensive easycash choice of products to which you are accustomed.
